It is a series of monoliths of steel machinery that has taken on an almost organic life of its own. Built in '74 by Stanley Marsh, these old gutted Cadillacs are planted in a field outside Amarillo, Texas.. among the remaining dredges of the old Route 66. Over the years they have been painted solid colors, and visitors leave their mark in spray paint or marker grafitti. A few years ago they were painted a base layer of pink, as a tribute to breast cancer awareness. little bits of pink still peek through, but they're mostly covered in "bob loves sally", "the waltons were here, 1998" and other more cryptic inside jokes & designs. Even 15mm doesn't quite do justice to the expanse.

these ranchers live timeless lives. neighbors help on branding day or when a horse is sick. best to have some extra supper because you never know who'll drop by. they always remove their hat when greeting a woman. they say little, but mean what they say. for them, patience is a way of life... all in good time: you can't mend all your fence or break a horse in one day. they care for their livestock like family. they know a man is nothing without a piece of land. only difference now is that they have a cel phone on the dash of their truck.
